I COME TO SERVE

(MY 7- POINT AGENDA FOR NIBO)

It was mid-June in 2020 when I finally decided to throw my hat into the ring for the upcoming President General election in Nibo, after serious consideration and extensive consultation. I have envisioned a better future for ndi Nibo, and I am confident that I have the requisite temperament, credibility, expertise and qualification to deliver. It wasn’t an easy decision for me. Nonetheless, I have an unshakeable faith in the good people of Nibo, that with quality and responsive leadership, we can collectively work and make Nibo a community that is secure and prosperous, and one we can all be proud of. To that effect, I have outlined a seven point developmental agenda that will be the thrust of my administration if I am elected the next PG of Nibo.
AN OVERVIEW OF MY SEVEN POINT DEVEOPMENTAL AGENDA: 1. SECURITY Today, security of life and property represents one of the most critical issues of our time. Hence, we will intensify all efforts towards tackling the issue of insecurity in Nibo, including all forms of kidnapping, killing, herdsmen attacks, banditry, etc. Within the first thirty days of my administration, I intend to meet with the heads of the existing Nibo Security Organization on ground to brainstorm on how to improve on intelligence gathering, their operational strength and welfare, etc. We will also adopt modern approaches to recruitment and training to enable our security outfits improve on their tasks. 2. INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT Desperate situation they say “requires desperate measures”. We will therefore actively seek private and public sector participation in developing our infrastructure. Top on the list, will be working with government agencies to establish tricycle ‘keke’ parks in key locations starting from Eke Nibo. These parks - away from the major roads - will serve to decongest the roads especially during the festive seasons. We will as a matter of necessity, discuss with stakeholders on the possibility of reintroducing the ‘olu ogbo’ system, whereby our teeming youths can be effectively and professionally engaged towards road maintenance, refuse control/disposal, waste management and other public works. We will also discuss and work with government agencies to introduce modern day speed breakers on all the major roads in Nibo, to help curb the rate of motor accidents and improve on pedestrians’ safety. 3. PEACE AND UNITY In the words of President D. Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States, “We seek peace, knowing that peace is the climate of freedom.” In other words, peace is the gateway to freedom. Peace is the cornerstone of every community’s development as it comes along with unity, positive thinking, and collaboration for the common good of all. We will work with all stakeholders to appoint an unbiased and more inclusive PEACE COMMITTEE, with a fresh mandate to look into existing conflicts, and suggest ways of reconciling the different aggrieved parties, and installing a system that will forestall future discordances within communities in Nibo. 4. PRESERVING OUR CULTURE AND TRADITONS It is important to preserve our cultural heritage, because it keeps our integrity as a people, hence, we will consult with all our existing Traditional Institutions to formulate realistic ways to uphold our culture and traditions in today’s evolving world. We will embark on this effort in order to protect who we are, and to give us an irrefutable connection to our past – to certain social values, beliefs, customs and traditions, that allow us to identify ourselves with others and deepen our sense of unity, sense of belonging and sense of pride. More importantly, I will introduce a cultural carnival, whereby the four quarters of Nibo can converge to showcase and display different cultural heritages, with one million Naira award prize (my personal annual trophy) given to the best display. 5. YOUTH DEVELOPMENT I am an ardent believer in the importance of development programs that seek to improve the lives of our youths, and help them build the competencies they need to become successful adults. On that note, within the first hundred days of my tenure, I intend to work with the different youth representatives in Nibo to establish a comprehensive Nibo Youth Council (NYC). The NYC, while representing the collective interest of the youths, will collaborate with Nibo Union to develop programs that are oriented towards youth development through recreation, social life, prevention, intervention, and education. We will also engage different NGOs, both local and international, to help fund and bring Positive Youth Programs that will gainfully engage our youths within the community, and consequently, keep them away from negative vices. 6. EDUCATION My attention will be primarily focused on renovating the old, dilapidated academic buildings within Nibo; empowering our local teachers, and providing more scholarships for our deserving students. This, I intend to achieve by working with individuals, groups and organizations who share in the same dream. A society that values the importance of Education flourishes in its social, economic, and business sectors. We must therefore nurture our people by providing them with the needed facilities and training. 7. QUALITY HEALTHCARE My administration will aim to promote better access to quality healthcare for all, in Nibo. We will be open to partner and collaborate with any person, persons or organization with a workable template to achieve this objective. In addition, we will work with government agencies to promote a special Insurance coverage for our elderly, under the State Health Insurance Scheme. I will also employ my experience and network as the Vice President of FirstChoice Foundation, a foremost NGO with international affiliations to use, by arranging short term courses and training for caregivers for the elderly and disabled at the community level. In conclusion, it is important for me to state that my mission is to serve and not to be served. A leadership position may appear appealing, but it entails not only a lot of work, but also a lot of responsibility. To enable us to walk our talk, and deliver on our stated programs, I will reach out to the vast number of ndi Nibo, capable and available, male and female, home and abroad, that can join us in different capacities to achieve a better future for our people. We will form working committees, and provide regular updates to ndi Nibo using effective social media platforms. With your much needed votes and support, I promise to anchor my service on the above listed agenda, and to deliver on my promise, by the special grace of God Almighty. Thank you and God bless.
